Write an extended reflection connecting what you’ve learned in this course to events and the US economy as you understand it today.  I suggest approaching this assignment as follows.
First think of an aspect of the macroeconomy and the current situation that most interests you. It could be employment, or inflation, or Fed monetary policy or a number of other aspects.  I do not expect you to write a comprehensive paper covering all aspects of the macroeconomy. Close examination of one or two issues you feel are significant is enough.

Second, do some research to find out what the data says and, perhaps, what other knowledgeable people think. See below for some interesting sources to explore.  I expect you refer to some source(s) in your reflection, but I do not want your reflection to simply be a re-phrasing of what somebody else thinks. Be critical and put your insights to use. Note: as explained in Format below, I do not require a particular citation format  (like APA, etc). Rather, I do want you to make it possible for me the reader to find my way to your original source material if I desired. Naming the title and author of the source with a URL is likely adequate for most material you might get from the web.

Third, write it. I’m not picky about style or formality. Tell me what you’re thinking. Give me an argument or rationale for why you think that. Yes, complete sentences and paragraphs are necessary and you should try to avoid casual abbreviated text-talk. Write more like a blog post if you were an economist who blogged. If you wish, I’m open to a meme or GIF, but be sure it adds to your writing and isn’t replacing your writing

Overview

Programmer productivity is one of the greatest challenges for software engineers. Unfortunately, most programmers don’t produce a great deal of tested, debugged production code on a daily basis. This is in spite of the fact that writing pages and pages of code for a project isn’t difficult. The difficulties arise when the code must be debugged, tested, and transformed into high-quality, easily maintained, production-quality code. An excellent approach to increasing programmer productivity is to make use of existing high-quality production code. This is called code reuse. In this week’s assignment, you will reuse the Caesar Cipher translate() method that you developed for Week 1.

Part 1 Programming a JavaFX GUI-Based Application

Part 1 of this week’s assignment is programming using JavaFX to build an interactive GUI-based program that implements the Caesar Cipher translation algorithm that was described last week. The GUI that you will develop is the “front-end” of the project. The “back-end” is the translate() method that you will (re-)use.

Implementation Notes for the CaesarCipherFX Program

You should create a Requirements document that details what your program needs to accomplish. You should create an input-process-output (IPO) chart to elaborate the requirements. You should design an interface that contains all the controls necessary for a user to interact with your program. This is all “planning” – specifying the “What” in detail

Part 2 Designing GUI Screens

Part 2 of this week’s assignment is to create “mock-ups” for the seven user interface screens required for the CapestraApp project. You should read the CapestraApp Software Requirements Specification (the SRS) to see what functionality the screens must support. Pay special attention to Sections 2.2, 3.1, and 4.

Implementation Notes for the GUI Design for Seven Screens

You may use any tools you wish to design the screens. The Web-based Moqups app is highly recommended. Microsoft Visio also is a good choice. You even can use pen and paper and scan your designs using your smartphone (not as highly recommended).

The important things to note are the following:

Which controls must be in place so that the SRS-required functionality is provided.

What would be expected of a high-quality, professional-grade user interface.

How easy it will be for you to implement each screen using what you know about JavaFX.

Note: You will use your designs as guides for implementing the CapestraApp screens that constitute your course project. This implementation (programming) will begin next week. Your designs are not cast in stone—so if you find that you need to modify your designs during implementation, this is not a problem.

THIS IS MY PROPOSAL

This type of proposal is the Problem/Solution Proposal. This type of proposal is common on the job. It occurs whenever there is a problem and someone has a solution to solve it. In most cases, an employee can’t just go ahead and make changes to implement a solution. Instead, that worker would need to get permission. This permission is obtained by writing a proposal.

Here is an example: There’s a problem with a lack of parking at work. It is causing workers to be late each morning. I notice across the street of the building there is an empty area that hasn’t really been used for many years. Since nobody is using it, I realize with a little cleaning up and lines painted on the concrete, it could be a new parking lot. To have management consider this change, I need to write a proposal.

This type of proposal has these parts:

First, there is an Introduction where you give a very brief overview of the problem. Sometimes an example of the problem can help. I might give an example of a worker coming into work 15 minutes late because he/she couldn’t find a parking place on company property.

Second, the writer gives a detailed description of The Problem.  Here the writer explains in detail what the problem is. One of the challenges in this section is many times the reader won’t see the issue as a problem, so it is the writer’s job to convince the reader there is a problem. It is really like an argument.
One of the strategies to convince your reader there is a problem is to get at the money issue. Explain to the reader how the problem is costing the company money, and how your solution could save money.  Using the above example, the writer could discuss how workers arriving late costs the company so many dollars in lost production time.

Third, is the Solution where the writer discusses his or her solution. In this section, it is very important to closely link how the solution will solve the problem.

Fourth, is the Cost/Time section. This section honestly addresses how much it will cost to implement the solution and how much time it will take. A strategy here is to link the cost back to the problem and solution. With the above example, it would cost some money to convert the recreation area to a parking lot. We have to be honest about these costs. At the same time, we can make our readers aware that the money spent now will be saved later when production time is saved by workers arriving on time.

4. Mr. Houdini is a teacher at Javier High School.
